HOA electroacoustic composition + video

A multichannel electroacoustic composition, based on instrumental sounds and field
recordings from and around the Andenes Lighthouse on Andøya, Vesterålen, Northern
Norway.
The sonic journey starts in the tidal zone where the seaweed captures and releases tiny
air bubbles and the coarse white sand made from fragments of shells and cold water
corals crackle when moved by waves. The journey continues going up through Andenes
lighthouse itself during a stormy day and ends at the very top where the aurora borealis
starts flickering all over the sky.
The Lighthouse is originally composed for a dome of 47 speakers, during a 4-week long work stay at ZKM | Center for Art and Media using higher order ambisonics – a 3D sound panning technique.
Ambisonics is easy to adapt to various speaker setups, depending on the amount and placement of the speakers in a particular space.
