I HAVET (2024)

4-channel audio

Deep down in the ocean we’re hearing something weird. Is it a whale? A submarine? A listening cable? Maybe it’s Draugen down there?

Do you hear the tones in the ocean?

The work is based on sound recordings from Vikten, Lofoten. The material is originally composed for 47 speakers during a 4-week long work stay at ZKM | Center for Art and Media using higher order ambisonics – a 3D sound panning technique. Ambisonics is easy to adapt to various setups, depending on the amount and placement of the speakers in a particulair space.

A visual interpretation of sound – where visual material is interpreted sonically. Each color represents a different tone, the white spaces representing silence. For this piece, the graphic score is interpreted with a pump organ / harmonium, an instrument rooted in Northern Norwegian coastal culture.
